Picoway Laser Treatment

The PicoWay laser is an ultrafast picosecond laser utilized to treat acne scars, wrinkles, benign pigmented lesions, and tattoo removal. The PicoWay Resolve laser is a therapy on the PicoWay laser system that utilizes a laser handpiece that divides the whole beam into little microbeams.

When treating these conditions with the PicoWay laser, your treatment provider will select the appropriate handpieces and laser wavelengths for you, taking into account your individual needs and skin characteristics.

By performing this procedure, our skilled physicians at IPAL will significantly enhance your skin’s texture and general appearance.

How Does it Work?

The PicoWay laser is a high-powered, ultra-short-pulse device used in all treatments. Instead of using a photothermal (or heat) method, which warms the skin and can cause negative consequences like downtime and scarring, we use a picosecond laser.

The PicoWay laser treats the skin from the inside out rather than the outside in. Treatment for acne scars and wrinkles, for example, involves creating microscopic holes in the dermis (the layer just beneath the skin’s surface) to stimulate the creation of collagen and elastin. This method can also be used to remove tattoo pigment.

Minimal Downtime

The photoacoustic effect rather than the photothermal one is due to the ultra-short pulses used in this treatment. There will be no downtime or scarring because these pulses will not cause the skin to heat up. PicoWayTM won’t affect the skin’s protective layer either. You can use makeup on the treated area and go about your day normally after just one day.

The Expected Outcomes

Each PicoWay treatment takes about 20 minutes and is performed every four weeks. The number of treatments we propose will differ depending on your current health and desired outcomes. Patients have reported that the PicoWay laser causes a sensation similar to a small elastic band snapping the skin. However, this discomfort is generally much less severe than that caused by other laser treatments.

When you come in for your initial laser treatment, we’ll review aftercare instructions for your skin. It is essential to protect your skin from the sun as much as possible after laser treatment; thus, we advise using a mild cleanser, moisturizer, and physical sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and reapplying it every 2 hours.
